Glasgow 1770 The Original
Our flagship single malt scotch whisky and one-third of our Signature Range. Double distilled with unpeated malted barley, this fresh and fruity single malt has been matured in first fill ex-bourbon casks and finished for six months within fresh virgin American white oak.
Glasgow 1770 Single Malt Scotch Whisky, The Original, is the whisky that started it all. Our inaugural expression, first launched in 2018, The Original forms one-third of our Signature Range, showcasing the double distilled unpeated style of whisky we make for one-third of our production year.
To make The Original we combine the following three ingredients:
Barley: unpeated British malted barley.
Water: soft Scottish water from Loch Katrine.
Yeast: a minimum 72 hours of fermentation within our washbacks using Pinnacle MG Distillers Yeast.
Distillation:
Twice distilled, very slowly, within small copper pot stills (2,500 litre wash still followed by a 1,500 litre spirit still).
We take a medium cut point of 72% - 63% when we capture our hearts.
Maturation:
The Original is double matured. First within first fill ex-bourbon barrels, before a finishing period of six months in virgin American white oak barrels.
Bottling:
Bottled at 46% ABV, The Original is non-chill filtered, and natural in colour.
The resulting single malt is what we call our ‘fresh & fruity’ style of whisky. Packed with notes of orange peel, rich vanilla, dark fruit, and a long-lasting hint of black pepper spice, the mouthfeel is rich and waxy to provide a flavour-forward enjoyable experience.
