Celebrating 10 Years of Whisky Making

Today, Wednesday the 5th of March, we're celebrating a milestone - ten years since the filling of our very first cask of single malt scotch whisky. 

On the 5th of March 2015, Cask No. 1 was filled with our unpeated double distilled new make spirit which marked a momentous moment for us all. Today in the distillery we take a moment to celebrate and reflect on what an action-packed ten years it’s been.

Over the past decade, we have pushed the boundaries of whisky-making, crafting single malts that capture our city's vibrant character. By creating three styles of new make spirit across unpeated double distilled, peated double distilled, and unpeated triple distilled, we achieve multiple distinct flavour profiles, offering a wide spectrum of choices for our whisky portfolio each year. 

It's these three different styles of whisky production that inform how we create our Signature Range of Glasgow 1770 Single Malt Scotch Whiskies. For us, the Signature Range is a showcase of what we believe epitomises us as contemporary urban distillers. This approach means our whiskies don’t rely solely on cask influence for versatility of flavour, instead, they start from three unique foundations, each bringing its own character to the final product you hold in your glass.

In addition to our acclaimed Signature Range, we have gained great recognition for our Glasgow 1770 Small Batch Series - an innovative collection of limited-edition releases showcasing the versatility of our three distinct whisky styles through a variety of unique and experimental cask maturations. The latest release was made up of three bottlings using our Peated spirit fully matured in Marsala Wine Casks and two finishes with an ex-Islay and Madeira cask.

Alongside the growth in our product range, the distillery infrastructure and staff have also grown. In 2019, we doubled our single malt capacity with a site expansion to include two new whisky stills. Last year, in 2024, we expanded our site again to include our own on-site cask warehouse and cooperage, enhancing the curation of our ever-maturing whiskies within the cask.

The last ten years have been a rollercoaster of a ride. We’re incredibly grateful to our passionate fanbase, our Glasgow Distillery Community, who have been at our side from the beginning and supported our mission of making premium spirits that are true to our three core principles of Authenticity, Transparency, and Accessibility. Our promise is to keep to these principles and hold them at the heart of everything we do.
