We proudly announce that Glasgow 1770 The Original has yet again struck gold. This time, the gold medal comes from the International Spirits Challenge which attracts entries from more than 70 countries worldwide, making it a true test of spirits excellence on an international scale.

Being awarded a medal in this esteemed competition is an extraordinary accomplishment for the distillery team and marks the 5th award medal for The Original in the last six months, alone. Other wins include scoring 95/100 at the IWSC, gaining a Double Platinum Medal and being named Best In Class at the USA-based ASCOT Awards, and winning a Gold Medal at the prestigious San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

Glasgow 1770 The Original

Glasgow 1770 Single Malt Scotch Whisky The Original is our fresh and fruity flagship release that has been matured in first fill ex-bourbon casks before a finishing period in virgin American white oak. Bottled at 46% ABV without chill filtration and at natural colour, experience notes of dried dark fruits, tropical pineapple, marzipan, orange zest and fresh oak.

Why the date 1770?

Honouring the heritage of single malt distilling in Glasgow, 1770 is the year that the original Glasgow Distillery was founded; they were one of the first legally licensed distilleries in Scotland and for a period of time they were also the largest distillery in Scotland, using the Clyde river to ship their whiskies around the world. The original Glasgow Distillery produced peated, unpeated and triple distilled whiskies, as we do today, and were one of many distilleries operating within Glasgow's city boundary. In 1902, they sadly closed their doors and were shut down.

In 2012 we took on the mantle of The Glasgow Distillery Co. and named our single malt whisky Glasgow 1770 as a celebration of the rich heritage and history that our city has with single malt whisky production.
